Building Knowledge for Conservation
International Workshop on Bowed String Instruments and Science
Museo del violino, September 20-21, 2013
Antique musical instrument restoration and conservation has become fully incorporated into the history and theory of restoration. Science today provides remarkable tools for analysing works of art, using diagnostic techniques already widely tested in major Italian restorations of individual artworks, frescoes and archaeological sites.
This is why the Fondazione Museo del Violino Antonio Stradivari, the Milan Polytechnic and the University of Pavia have organized two days of meetings and discussions aboutscientific diagnosis techniques applied to the study of antique musical instruments. Experts and curators from different countries and the most advanced specialist research centres will be sharing their own analytical experiences. The workshop is open to anyone with an interest in the field. Places are free but must be reserved in advance.
Admission free, obbligatory seat booking.
