A graduate of the Hochschule für Musik ‘Hanns Eisler’ in Berlin and the Zurich University of the Arts, German-Slovenian violinist and violist Annika Starc is sought after as a soloist, chamber musician and concertmaster in Central Europe and abroad. She is known for her extraordinarily versatile and creative musical style which reflects her interest in the fusion of musical genres.
Artists she has collaborated with include Salvatore Accardo, Bruno Giuranna, Viktoria Mullova, Ilya Gringolts, Mischa Maisky, Gábor Takács-Nagy, Kit Armstrong, Gabriel Prokofiev, Aleksey Igudesman and Roby Lakatos, among many others. She leads an active and varied musical life embracing classical music, improvisation, contemporary, experimental and even electronic music. During her musical training, she also studied baroque violin, conducting, jazz violin, acting and sound engineering.
In 2024, she performed as a soloist with the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra playing Max Bruch’s rarely performed Third Violin Concerto. She has also played in major concert halls including the Philharmonie and Konzerthaus in Berlin, the Tonhalle in Zurich, the KKL in Lucerne and the Philharmonie in Monte Carlo.
In 2023, she received a special prize for her interpretation of J.S. Bach’s works at the “Vittorio Veneto” International Violin Competition. Between 2009 and 2014, she took part in the German competition “Jugend MusiZiert”, winning eight first prizes both as a soloist and as a chamber musician in various ensembles.
She usually plays a violin by L. Guadagnini (1743) entrusted to her by the “Landessammlung Baden-Württemberg” Foundation.
